Wasabi Systems Releases Wasabi Storage BuilderŪ for IP-SAN v2.1

Additional Enterprise class features and support for VMWare ESX

NORFOLK, VA – September 21, 2006 – Wasabi Systems today announced the latest release of Wasabi Storage Builder® for IP-SAN, its highly-integrated, turnkey software solution that turns standard server components into dedicated iSCSI networked storage appliances.

“Wasabi Storage Builder for IP-SAN Version 2.1 incorporates an even greater range of capabilities than its predecessor,” said Jim Schrand, Wasabi’s vice president of marketing. “IP Storage growth is rapid in an increasing number of markets and our OEM customers are accelerating their deployments of Storage Builder based appliances. Consistent with all of our storage solutions, Wasabi Storage Builder for IP-SAN is easy to manage and scales quickly in these dynamic environments. Wasabi continues to set the pace for value for small to medium sized enterprise storage solutions.”

The newest features of Wasabi Storage Builder for IP-SANVersion 2.1 include support for:

  • >2TB logical drives, allowing the creation of very large storage pools while simplifying storage management. Storage Builder supports single appliances with up to 48 drives per chassis. The Storage Builder Volume Virtualization will allow the complete array to appear as one large drive
  • iSCSI Error Recovery Level (ERL) 1 and 2, providing increased connection reliability. This moves Storage Builder’s error recovery into enterprise class reliability.
  • VMWare ESX Server 3.0 iSCSI initiator support. Now organizations using VMWare for virtualized servers can add IP based virtualized storage

The iSCSI with VMWare enables a more efficient use of resources while simplifying management by virtualizing the storage. Further, migrating a virtual machine from one physical server to another physical server is now simply a matter of copying the virtual machine onto the new physical server. Since the storage for the virtual machine resides on the network, it is instantly available to the moved virtual machine, even though the virtual machine now resides on another physical server.

Other advancements of Wasabi Storage Builder for IP-SAN v2.1 include:

  • Hard drive S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology) support with email notification
  • Default enabling of IPv6 on all interfaces that are not configured for IPv4
  • IPv6 portals exposed via iSNS
  • Audible alarm implementation for drive failure notification.

Wasabi’s Storage Builder for IP-SAN Version 2.1 is available now through Wasabi’s network of OEM partners and authorized resellers. Qualified Value Added Resellers and Systems Integrators interested in learning how to add Storage Builder to their line up should contact Wasabi Sales at 757.248.9601.
